study

Sunday, January 27th, 2002

The observant will have noticed another new section in the navigation. I’ve set up another journal in order to discuss some of the themes that I will be studying this year in my course on World Religions with the Open University.

While moving things around I’ve moved the articles to a link within the blog navigation – as most of them predate the blog (which is nearly a year old!) and seemed to fit better here.

On a totally unrelated subject, I am being driven round the bend each night by a very loud bird (of the feathered variety) which is singing outside my window all night. What sort of bird is this – just a confused sparrow under a streetlamp? Or some evil night bird come to deprive me of the little sleep I get!?

new stuff

Friday, January 25th, 2002

I’ve added a ‘play’ section to this site, for random things I build. While updating the pages, my connection decided to bomb out so if you were on the site this morning and got loads of errors I was waiting to get back online to upload my includes! The play section is for just that – play and experiments. So let me know if anything I put up there breaks – but don’t be surprised!

A new CSS discussion list has been set up. People seem friendly and it’s always good to have a forum to ask questions and request site checks, particularly when CSS2 is something many of us are still just getting our heads around.

Nearly the weekend… not that it makes a lot of difference round here!

working another weekend…

Sunday, January 20th, 2002

The problem with both working and playing online means that I rarely leave the computer. Work and play seem to merge seamlessly (and scarily) into one. Thankfully my Open University course starts at the beginning of February which will force me to leave this chair and do some reading – from a book.. and not an O’Reilly one at that!

too busy to blog

Tuesday, January 15th, 2002

I just realised I haven’t updated this since the 9th… you wouldn’t believe I spend all my time in front of a computer! This site is like the piles of personal emails I have in my inbox, that I need to reply to, and then I look at the date and realise I’ve been meaning to reply to them for a month.

I’m busy, work, personal projects, just generally being a mother to the small person… my day seems to be packed from 8am till midnight. I’m not complaining though, I’m dreadful to be around when bored!

things found in the server logs

Wednesday, January 9th, 2002

I like digging through the server logs from my sites. All sorts of interesting things are to be found.

In my referers for my business / web development site I find Croc o’Lyle a blog dedicated to usability, web design, information architecture and user experience practices, and also Elegant Hack a one-person website devoted to exploring and furthering the emerging art of user experience design and information architecture on the web. Both sites I will return to and which I didn’t know of until they appeared in the logs.

This site continues to attract the most bizarre search requests:
t-shirt UK geek
wet jeans
and plastic bag bondage are my favourites for today.
