Doctor slang
Despite my sister Alison being newly qualified as a doctor it’s not a family vocation and I try and stay away from all things medical, this article made me laugh though. I’ve definitely had a few UBIs in my time.
Don’t click on the blue e
Despite the fact that it crashes, it’s ugly and it doesn’t have half of the functionality of Firebird, I still have a kind of nervous twitch that causes me to open Internet Explorer while I’m sat at a computer running Windows … it’s like a strange compulsion to click on that little blue e. Today I found another reason not to click on the blue e. The PNH Developer Toolbar, this is so useful and there are versions for Mozilla/Netscape 7 or Firebird/Phoenix.
Over dinner Drew and I were discussing spacer images (we’re sad like that), Drew has managed to encapsulate our feelings about these items most eloquently!
The RPC Server is unavailable
I was just looking through my server logs and found a large number of search requests coming via Google for The RPC Server is Unavailable, the reason you will have found me through this search is because of a very old rant, indexed by Google on the older incarnation of this site and can be read here.
However, I doubt that the RPC errors that people are seeing are related to my very-ex-webhost, and if you have come here because of seeing RPC errors on your computer then you might like to check out here, here or here.
Mobile Phones
I’m thinking of changing from Vodafone to Orange, due to Vodafone being stupidly expensive when making calls to phones on other networks and most of the people that I call regularly are on Orange.
However, I also want a phone that I can use to check my email with and I’d prefer to stick with Nokia, which doesn’t seem to leave me with much of a choice as far as Orange are concerned … any suggestions anyone? Should I stay with Vodafone despite their costing me a fortune because I have a better choice of phones? Should I revert to yoghurt pot and bit of string?
I’ll probably have to go speak to people in phone shops, which isn’t a favourite activity as they seem to spot a woman walking in and revert to the sort of language that the Small Person would be patronised by … maybe I should just send the Small Person to choose me a phone.
Web design postcards
The Web design postcards site is a nice idea – short, concise snippets of information presented in an easy to read manner. Via Meryl.net.
