On getting older … and not changing all that much

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

I added a favourite quote of mine to the comments of Molly’s blog post on favourite quotes and phrases. The lines I added are from my favourite musical, Sunday in the Park with George. It is a Sondheim musical – currently back in the West End – which was my inspiration to go and study music theatre at college over a decade ago.

The funny thing is that those same words, and a whole host of other quotes and song lyrics, still mean as much to me now aged 31, as they did when they were scrawled on postcards decorating the walls of my student flat as an 18 year old dance student. I relate the words to different experiences and I have different choices to make, but who I am and the way in which I go about making those choices hasn’t changed so much … despite the fact that the life I now live is so far removed from what I ever thought I’d be doing back then.

So, another quote, from another person who inspired me as a student and continues to do so now.

“I love my past, I love my present. I am not ashamed of what I have had, and I am not sad because I no longer have it.” – Sidonie Gabrielle Colette
